The Vietnam War es un largometraje documental dirigido por Ken Burns y Lynn Novick sobre la Guerra de Vietnam. Por su duración (18 horas), se presentará en 10 partes en el canal estadounidense PBS, comenzando su transmisión este domingo 17 de septiembre. Aprovechando que el día de hoy se lanzaron dos soundtracks oficiales, uno con canciones de artistas varios y el otro del score original compuesto por Trent Reznor y Atticus Ross, vamos comentando sobre este proyecto.
Aquí se cuenta la épica historia de uno de los eventos más polémicos, divisorios y consecuentes de la historia de Estados Unidos. El filme explora las dimensiones humanas de la guerra a través de testimonios reveladores de casi 80 testigos de todos los lados, tanto estadounidenses que pelearon en el mencionado conflicto bélico y aquellos que se les oponían, así como los combatientes y civiles del norte y sur de Vietnam.
Esta película, realizada en el transcurso de 10 años, incluirá material de video raramente visto (y remasterizado), así como filmes caseros, fotografías, segmentos de noticias y hasta grabaciones de audio secretas de las administraciones de Kennedy, Johnson y Nixon.
Regresando a los álbumes musicales, el disco de artistas varios contiene una gran variedad de grandes temas de artistas de la era. Podrán escuchar este álbum y después el de score más abajo, pero primero chequen un breve tráiler de este documental.
*Actualización (06/10/2017): El día de hoy se lanzó un nuevo soundtrack de este documental, titulado Vietnamese Songs, en el que desde luego se incluyen temas vietnamitas tradicionales y populares arreglados por miembros de The Silkroad Ensemble con Yo-Yo Ma y algunas improvisaciones inspiradas por el largometraje.
